Town Spotlight: Seaside Oregon

Today I wanted to share with you a little place on the northern coast of Oregon called Seaside.

Seaside Oregon is a small resort town that my family and I have been visiting for over 30 years. I say over 30 years because I am 34 years old as of today and I know our family has vacationed there since I was around 2 years old. I want to share some of my favorite things in Seaside with you with this little Town Spotlight.

Where To Say

Hi-Tide Resort

The Hi-Tide resort was the only hotel that my grandmother would stay in when we went to Seaside. She loved that it was away from the main street but still close enough to walk to all the shops. The kitchenettes always made it an easy option to have a night in by the fireplace if we didn’t feel like going out to a restaurant. Don’t discount a trip to the beach in the winter! Not only are the prices much lower but a room at the Hi-Tide with a cozy fireplace makes watching the winter storms over the ocean beautiful. Prices range from $89 to $140 a night in the winter and $120 to $250 a night in the summer making it a bit more affordable compared to some of the other ocean front hotels.

The Hi-Tide also offers packages to make your stay a little more fun including a beach basket with firewood and a s’mores kit. These packages are currently unavailable due to current Covid rules but check them out here for a future trip.

Where To Eat

Dooger’s Seafood and Grill

Dooger’s has been a staple restaurant in Seaside for over 30 years. My family has been going to Dooger’s for about that long when ever we are there. If you get a chance to go you need to try their prawns with sweet potato fries and a cup of chowder. Dooger’s is open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week starting at 11:30am.

My favorite dish at Dooger’s is their clam chowder and I have never been able to find any restaurant that comes close to the same taste. Dooger’s also sells a clam chowder kit so that it can be enjoyed at home, here.

What To Do

Schwietert’s Cones & Candy

The original candy store in this location had been open for as long as I can remember. A few years back the name was changed and the wall between the candy shop and ice cream shop was taken down with a remodel of the two stores. I can’t remember the old name of the candy shop so it could still be the same ownership and name just a remodel. The atmosphere and local feel of this shop is still the same. This candy story has hundreds of kinds of candy including rows of taffy and a wall of jelly beans!

Funland is a giant arcade that has many classic games and new ones along with a great little restaurant, Fultano’s. The Funland arcade has been around since 1931 and is the largest arcade on the northern Oregon coast!

I really hope you enjoy this little Town Spotlight of Seaside Oregon. If you are in the Pacific Northwest and have been to seaside, What are you favorites?
