The Human Condtion

Hi everyone I know the old saying goes that once something is on the internet you can never take it off and I honestly hope in writing this that that is true because if this is my one post that lives forever then at least I know I have touched a few people and maybe changed some minds. I try to keep it fairly lighthearted and very real on this blog and as I sit down on a cold February day to write this after a very… Interesting conversation I must admit that today I’m not as lighthearted. I want to talk about something that some people might not understand… I want to talk about the human condition and the representation of that condition. Now I know that a lot of people are wondering what the human condition is and why representation of it is important and the simple answer to those questions are this… We are the human condition every single one of us and some people are getting the short end of the stick when it comes to how the media, or popular music, or anything really represent them… I am one of those people. So lets talk about it.

Now a lot of people are going to be upset by a lot of this some for good reasons and some for bad reasons. This anger, or distaste will inspire change at least that is what I am hoping for so before you jump to any radical actions just make sure you read all of this. I am not personally trying to hurt anyone but if I can get one person to see how their actions, or words or anything effect another person and change just a little well. I will call that a win so lets get into the meat and potatoes of this post.

Today (February 12th,2020 For those wondering) I got into a interesting discussion with a person. This discussion started out normal enough just friendly small talk and then turned into something bigger. Something that honestly means a lot to me. It turned into a conversation about representation. Now before you scream and yell just hear me out. Look at your life and the media you consume… Are you represented in a fair way? Do you watch movies and tv shows with people that look like you in any way? Same gender and race and body type? Sexual orientation and mental health standing? Or do you watch whatever is on and just consume what we’ve been programmed to consume without much complaint? Because in my experience at least one of not more of these boxes go unchecked. God thats a gorgeous Native American women in this show but why are they all so skinny and why does it seem like no one struggles? Or God thats another thick women but geez how is her confidence so high? Like I am not going to lie I am not skinny by any means of the word, I am not rich and I do not have the body confidence or the mental stability of a Greek God so why is it that we are not represented more? Why is it that if your a nonwhite nonstable person the media makes you out to be hoodlums or crazy? And dear God if you are not a size 0 to a size 8 in pants then your unhealthy. I just wonder why we are all taught to hate and dislike certain things that make us human.

I mean please don’t get me wrong I am not saying lets all huddle together and sing campfire songs but why do we fight and breed hate over all the small differences that make us more human? Humans come in all colors, and sizes, shapes, religions, mentalities ,sexuality and everything in between so why are we using those differences as ammo and not as building blocks. If we were all the same and everything about us was the same would we be humans or would we be robots? Our differences are what set us apart form the other mammals but yet we use it so mentally, emotionally and physically bring others down. We as humans are taught what, who, and why to hate and we grow and some of our opinions may disappear or change but yet we still breed the same types of hate into our young and wonder why the world is the way it is. I have opinions, I have world views, I have thoughts and NO before you ask I don’t love everyone but after my talk today with this person I do believe I have the capacity to at least try and like almost everyone. I don’t have to agree with you or you with me and I don’t have to have everything in common with you but I believe if we can talk like responsible people, learn to take someones opinion in a respectful way and realize we are all different for a reason maybe just maybe we can start breaking some stigma’s.

Sorry for getting so serious today but it just felt like it needed to be done. I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend! As always love Bennita’s House
