Boy oh boy it is Christmas Eve and this blogmas journey has been a long one.
Well… technically I am writing this on December 2nd but it has taken me a while to come up with ideas and actually complete them. I have been working and scheduling blogmas posts for about a month now. I wanted as many posts as I could do checked off my list by the second week of December, that way I could start on my January posts.
For today’s post I wanted to share my families Christmas Eve tradition. I’m not sure how long it has been a tradition but I know it started before I was born (1986).
Our Christmas Eve tradition is Avery Island Deviled Shrimp with Deviled Shrimp Sauce over rice. Before my grandparents passed away we would always have it at their house but since then my mother and I have been alternating years on hosting.
I have never been able to find the exact Avery Island Deviled Shrimp recipe online that is in my grandmothers 1961 ‘Betty Crocker’s New Picture Cook Book’. All the ones I have found online have some kind of variation, which is understandable because even my grandmother changed a few things.
I would love to know if anyone else has a Christmas Eve tradition like this. Most people I know outside of my family don’t even know what Avery Island Deviled Shrimp is, much less have a big Christmas Eve shrimp dinner.
